#26 More than one way to enjoy miso soup
Basic miso soup has tofu, wakame and scallions. But you can add more vegetables, or even meat, mushrooms or seafood, and it won't be sacrilege.
We love miso soup in its most basic form (see the recipe) and, for a while, we never considered making it any other way thinking that any addition would make it less than authentic.
Today, we know better. Or, perhaps, we just don’t dwell too much anymore on what “authentic” means (Is there such a thing as “pure” cuisine?"). The experiments had been endless.
Fish belly and moringa miso soup
Pork and vegetables miso soup (tonjiru / butajiru)
Miso ramen with shrimp wonton and shiitake
I hope you enjoy experimenting with your miso soup.
Meanwhile, I have to go and check the house in preparation for the super typhoon that’s about to hit the country.
